That's all she wrote... for now. [Nov. 29th, 2006|08:48 pm]
Tequila Sunset

[mood |accomplishedaccomplished]

And with 54,097 words, the novel Tequila Sunset comes to a close.

I'd like to thank everyone who's read the story along the way - all the comments and encouragement you've given me really helped me make the finish line. Thank you for enjoying reading about Philip, Bastian and Brian as much as I've enjoyed writing about them.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a sequel someday. I might even write some little shorts and post them up here and there. Who can say?

But for now, this is what we've got. If you've got some comments or questions about the novel as a whole, I'd love to hear them - please reply to this post.

I'm going to be spending a goodly portion of time after the holidays editing Tequila Sunset and Michael's Story ( michael_malone for that story collection, if you missed out on it), and then trying to submit them for publication somewhere. Wish me luck! They're far from complete in their current state, but I'm hopeful.

And most importantly, I learned that if I really push myself, I can put out some quality writing that people will want to read in a month's time. That's a major improvement over the 2 1/2 years it took me to complete Michael's story.

Tequila Sunset

[mood |amusedamused]

These are the songs I've found so far that fit the story... I may upload them at some point for your listening pleasure .

1. Boston - More than a Feeling
When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away. she slipped away.

Philip and Mavis, obviously (ignore that the song says Marrianne)

2. Moody Blues - Evening: The Sunset
I can see it all
From this great height
I can feel the sun
Slipping out of sight
And the world still goes on
Through the night

3. Pink Floyd- Brain Damage
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.

(Whee- getting mindfucked by Morpheus)

4. Pink Floyd- Time
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

5. Simon and Garfunkel- The Only Living Boy in New York
Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da here I am
The only living boy in New York

Half of the time were gone but we don't know where,
And we don't know here.

6. Jewel- You Were Meant For Me
I pick a book up. Turn the sheets down.
Take a deep breath and a good look around
Put on my pjs and hop into bed
I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead
I try and tell myself it'll be all right
I just shouldn't think anymore tonight 'cause
Dreams last for so long
Even after you're gone
I know you love me
And soon I know you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

7. The Elected - Not Me
Running in place, retracing the same things.
You do what it takes- erase what the day brings.
And when the knife comes down, you're gonna look around
To see who cut you down. It's not me.

It's not me

8. Rilo Kiley - Pictures of Success
When you're dead
In hospitals and freeways
When you're dead
In resting homes and clinics
When you're dead
It must be nice to finish
When you're dead

I've had it with you
And Mexico can fucking wait

( Situational, I guess...)

9. Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter
Sometimes in the morning I am petrified and can't move
awake but cannot open my eyes
and the weight is crushing down on my lungs I know I can't breath
and hope someone will help me this time

10. Azure Ray - Favorite Cities
So it's grey, well so are my favorite cities
And we have, we have all the time in the world here
We'll just stay tucked in the shade and our eyes they can't be blinded
We'll just stay tucked in the shade
So it's grey, well so are my favorite cities
And the sky on such a memorable night
And we have, we have all the time in the world here
That's a lie, that's a lie...

11. Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos - Quiet as a Mouse
When I woke I was alive in somebody's room
I felt life and love and hope infested my bones

Wake up you've got a lot of things to do
Wake up the sun is rising without you

When I woke my body was dying all over the floor
I felt apathy and hate infested my bones

Wake up you've got a lot of things to do
Wake up the sun is rising without you

12. Neva Dinova - Did You Disappoint your God?
What's it like when you die
Do you live on in
If you can I want to try
I didn't get
nothing done in this life
I need to try, I need to try.

(Bastian thinking about Alexi)

13. The Who- I'm Free
I'M FREE-I'm free,
And freedom tastes of reality,
I'm free-I'm free,
AN' I'm waiting for you to follow me.

Dreamscape- the world of dreams

Dreamstation - the popular console game that allows you to play in your sleep, alone or with others Titles include Mecha Warrior Battlescape and Super Sunshine Party.

Government housing- the crappy housing the government pays for, when you don't have a job that springs for your living arrangements, or when you are too poor to pay for your own. It's generally cramped, crappy, and not-too-safe. An estimated 85% of the population lives in, or has lived in, government housing.

Lucid- being aware within in the Dreamscape

Synthetic- a lot of foodstuffs and materials are artificially manufactured or grown. These tend to be poorer quality

Temporary Love- a euphemism for purchasing a companion for the night; legal prostitution
